What We Do

Our measurement strategy is built on 16 years of engagement with patients, families, clinicians, leaders, policy makers, researchers and community stakeholder groups all working together to continuously improve patient-centred measurement in BC.  This includes survey selection and development, data collection (quantitative and qualitative), reporting, and action based on feedback from BC’s patients and families.

Patient-Centred Measurement

Understanding self-reported satisfaction, experiences, and health-related quality of life of the people who use healthcare services is a strategic priority for our health system. The measurement of patient experiences and outcomes gives those who use our healthcare services in BC a voice in evaluating the quality and safety of their care and is a means to evaluate our progress towards providing care that is patient-centred.

Surveys

Since 2003, we have received feedback from more than 1 million users of health care services in BC. We have supported surveys across 13 sectors, including patient perspectives about care in all Emergency Departments, Acute Care hospitals, Long Term Residential Care homes, Mental Health and Substance Use Care, and Outpatient Cancer Care.

Tools and Resources

We have developed and continue to evolve a suite of resources to support building capacity to use patient-centred measurement data. The resources are developed for patients, families, health care teams, policy makers, and researchers.
